The Labor Story and more pics from the hospital

Well for those of you who are curious and have asked Wed. 2/27 I spent the day just hanging out at our house with Christian taking things easy. My friends Tiffany and Emily came over with their girls and just hung out for part of the day helping me to get some last minute things done. It was for the most part a pretty normal day at our house. I didn't feel the greatest but who does when you are that pregnant?

Ed came home that evening and made homemade pizza for dinner (he thinks thats what kicked things off :). We played with Christian got him to bed and were trying to finish getting the last minute things ready to go to the hospital in the morning for the induction. It was around 9:45-10:00 I told Ed I needed to go to bed because my stomach hurt and I didn't feel great. He asked me if I was in labor and I said no. Well he said are you timing when your stomach hurts I of course replied with No I'm not in labor. He said well lets time things anyhow. So he timed when the pain was coming and going and said it was happening every 5 minutes so he decided to call the Dr. just in case.

Ed called and talked to Dr. Mong said you can probably just wait if shes not sure she is in labor its probably the early stages because if she was in "true" labor she would be having flashbacks and know she was in labor. Well by 10:15 I was telling Ed we needed to go and I needed to get back downstairs before I wasn't able to get back downstairs. So he finished loading up the van and we headed out to drop Christian off and then to the hospital.

By the time we were 1/2 way to the hospital I knew I was in labor- the contractions seemed to be coming every 2-3 minutes. We arrived at the hosiptal Ed pulled up in front of the birthing center went and got a wheelchair and wheeled me in. The security guard told him he could leave the van there while he dropped me off. So he took me upstairs. The lady at check in wanted my id and insurance card ummm... its in the van. She said go ahead back and then Ed would need to come out and fill out some paperwork. We get to the room (which just happened to be the room I deliever Christiain in) and the nurse asks me to go to the bathroom and I said ummm I can't walk so she said just get in the bed. I got in the bed and she started asking me all the registration questions. I had to interupt her and ask when are you going to check me. She said she would while getting ready she asked if I wanted to epidural of course I wanted the epi I said can I get it now she said well you have to wait until your iv is put in and you have a bag of fluid WHAT ARE YOU KIDDING ME I WAS HURTING!! She proceeded to check me and said that I was 7cm and that my water had not broke. We then continued with the registration process and with in a few minutes I told her I needed to use the restroom, she checked me again and said well we are at 10 don't push or your going to break your water and this baby is doing to be here before Dr. Mong- I can deliever a baby but we usually like to wait for the Dr. Keep in mind the van is still down in the birthcenter drop off area running and we brought nothing in with us so while we were waiting for Dr. Mong another nurse was kind enough to go get our camera's for us and cut off the van. Dr. Mong arrived within a few minutes broke my water and then about 4 pushes later Robert Benjamin was born! It was amazing!! He is perfect. Ed cut the cord they cleaned him up and we were able to hold him.

It was not long and they moved us to our room 210. We were able to get a few hours of sleep and waited until around 7am in the morning to call and let everyone know that he had arrived. Christian was the first to meet Benjamin. He came in and ran over to the bed and said baby baby. He was so sweet he gave him lots of kisses.

We got to come home on Saturday. Christian came to the hospital so that he was able to ride home with us. It was nice. We came home to a nice dinner and were able to get settled in and things have just been rolling ever since......

A Fun Weekend~Marbles Museum, Geese, and Birdseed!

(This post is a little late we didn't get it up before Benjamin arrived)

Since it was our last weekend as the three of us we wanted to do something fun with Christian (to clarifty not that we don't usually have fun:) We decided to go to downtown raleigh to the Marbles Museum. It was a ton of fun and there was so much to do. Here are a few pictures from our day.

The weather was beautiful so we also went to feed the geese at the pond behind our house.

There are also a few pics of Ed and Christian throwing birdseed out in the backyard. Christian loves to look out the back door for birds so they got some seed to throw and now he looks for them everyday!

Robert Benjamin Singleton- 2/28/08 12:19am 8lbs 5oz 21"

Our new addition has arrived (actually a little earlier than expected)!! I will update the full story later but the short version is that I went into labor without having to be induced. We arrived at the hospital Wednesday night and I got checked in at 11:46p.m. and then at 12:19 a.m. Robert Benjamin was born. It was a FAST delivery and there was no time for meds. Everyone is doing well. He looks exactly like Christian did when he was born-check out the picture down on the righthand side of Christian the day he was born. Here are a few pictures of our new little man...

Please feel free to leave comments for those of you who have asked how at the bottom of the post there is a comments link just click that link and follow the instuctions in the pop-up box.

Family Pictures and More.....

We wanted to have some family pictures made with Christian before the new baby arrives. We were able to get that done this week. I personally was not interested in getting any maternity shots but the photographer talked me into it and I am actually glad that I did. One of my favorite pictures is the one at top of the page. I love it!

First Trip to the Dentist

Thursday we went to our first dentist appointment. It was quite interesting. Christian did a great job- although we did have a few tears :( The dentist Dr. Johnson said that his teeth were spaced out very well and that they looked wonderful! She did say he will probably need braces but that didn't really suprise us being that both Ed and I had them growing up. I wasn't able to take any pictures of them cleaning his teeth because I was holding him but I did get a few of him playing while we were there.
